What is Slime Flux?

Ever seen butterflies gathered around a tree with oozing sap? Turns out, those butterflies might be sipping on something a little stronger than usual, a bacterial infection called slime flux. Slime Flux is like a treetop bar for thirsty insects!

This infection causes the sap inside the tree to ferment, similar to the way grapes are fermented into wine. The result? A frothy, smelly ooze that seeps out of the tree bark and attracts all sorts of critters, especially butterflies!

While it might seem harmless to see butterflies enjoying a “drink,” slime flux is actually a serious problem for trees. It weakens their structure, making them more susceptible to other diseases and pests. Think of it like a slow leak in a tire – it might seem minor at first, but it can lead to a major breakdown down the road.

So, how can you tell if your trees are suffering from this unusual ailment? Keep an eye out for any oozing sap, discolored bark, or unusual insect activity. These could all be signs of slime flux or other tree health issues.

If you notice anything suspicious, don’t hesitate to give us a call at Adam’s Apple Tree Service. We’ll diagnose the problem and provide effective solutions to get your trees back to good health. Our team is dedicated to preserving the beauty and health of Austin’s urban forest, one tree at a time.
